The Office carries out the following tasks:

• coordination of the implementation of current agreements with the European Union and activities of joint bodies, founded on the basis of these agreements;
• monitoring of the implementation of activities relating to the pre-accession instruments which will gradually cease to apply and the introduction of other forms of assistance relating to the implementation of the acquis outside the competence of other bodies;
• coordination, in cooperation with the government bodies and working groups, of participation of the Republic of Slovenia as a Member State of the European Union and of its representatives in the activities of the European Union bodies;
• coordination of involvement of the Republic of Slovenia in the provision of EU technical assistance to the third countries;
• coordination, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, of the drafting of negotiating positions of the Slovenian government with regard to association and accession of new member states to the European Union and participation, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the negotiations within the bodies of the European Union;
• reporting to the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and performing specific tasks imposed by the Government;
• monitoring, on behalf of the Government, of the preparation of documents relating to EU affairs, which the Government submits for discussion to the National Assembly, and participation in the discussion of these documents, except for the parts relating to the Common Foreign and Security Policy, the obligations of the state in the area of defence, intergovernmental conferences and the basic political and institutional development of the European Union.

GOEA carries out its tasks within the framework of the following internal organisation units:

• A bilingual data corpus (English-Slovene) comprises translation memories of legal acts of the European Union created by the Translation, Interpreting and Language Editing Service of the Government Secretariat-General;
