| Italy the 24th Member State to ratify the Treaty of Lisbon |

Slovenia commends today’s decision of the Italian Parliament. Italy has thus become the 24th EU Member State whose Parliament has ratified the Lisbon Treaty. Slovenia expects that three remaining Member States which have not yet approved the Lisbon Treaty (the Czech Republic, Sweden and Ireland) will do so as soon as possible. This would enable the common objective be reached, which is laid down in the Berlin Declaration – enforcement of the Lisbon Treaty prior to the elections to the European Parliament in 2009. Apart from the Italian Parliament, the Treaty has been ratified also by the parliaments of Hungary, Slovenia, Malta, Romania, France, Bulgaria, Poland, Slovak Republic, Portugal, Denmark, Austria, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Luxembourg, Finland, Estonia, Greece, United Kingdom, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain. More about the Lisbon Treaty, details of ratification procedures in individual Member States, and the benefits the Treaty brings to EU citizens is available on the web site: Europa – Treaty of Lisbon.
